SDG showcase brochure

The UN & External Affairs Committee Members assigned to Europe are gathering JCI projects with impact that are linked to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) from local chapters all over Europe for the JCI Europe SDG showcase brochure.

This is the opportunity for our JCI local chapters to have their best JCI projects with impact published in the JCI Europe SDG showcase brochure and maybe win a registration for the JCI Global Partnership Summit!

Two projects will be selected for each SDG for a total of 34 projects with impact.

To have a chance to be published in the brochure, choose a JCI project (or more) with impact from your local chapter and follow these guidelines.

Send your application(s) before the 30th of June and get a chance to win your registration for the JCI Global Partnership Summit!

Will your JCI project with impact be selected?

Visit JCI at FIDO – Federal Institute for Sustainable Development

Dear friends,

On May 8 I was invited at FIDO, the Federal Institute for Sustainable Development. After a short email via www.sdgs.be I was invited to come and present JCI.

JCI Belgium en FIDO

FIDO is the administration of the Federal Minister for Sustainable Development Marie Christine Marghem. They were also, together with our partner The Shift, initiators of the SDG Voices.

I was given the opportunity to introduce our association, and go deeper about: Tomorrow Ghent (NC2017), the Global Goal Awards, and the World Cleanup Day.

The FIDO ensures the preparation of federal policy on sustainable development and coordinates policy implementation. They are also the federal center for sustainable development expertise and share their knowledge with other government agencies and non-governmental organizations. So FIDO conducts research on international megatrends for sustainable development and is implementing the policy. In addition FIDO can support the operation of your chapter as follows:

  1. All projects related to one or more SDGs can be transmitted by the local chapters themselves via www.SDGs.be. Which is interesting, because a newsletter is sent periodically with future initiatives.
  1. FIDO provides expertise on sustainable events. A tool that we can use for our own projects is available via: http://www.duurzaamevenement.belgium.be
  1. Finally, FIDO has produced a beautiful brochure on SDGs. NL and FR are available for free in digital and printed versions. Applications can be made here
SDG Brochures FIDO

We agreed to provide a printed version for participants at JCI workshops or brainstorming sessions around the SDGs. A session can be requested via Valérie.

To the next SDG update!

Wanted: JCI Belgium Global Goals Committee Members (volunteers)

Dear friends,

At the World Congress 2015 (Kanazawa), JCI representatives from 120 countries signed the Kanazawa declaration and spoke about our organization’s commitment to the implementation and support of the UN SDGs.

What we are seeing now is that these Global Goals have penetrated internationally into the DNA of our organization. Because we cannot stay behind at the Belgian level, JCI Belgium founds a SDG Ambassadors Team. Here, JCI members and candidates can contribute to the promotion and realization of SDGs.

About the SDG Ambassador Team

What are the plans for the team on the short-term?

  • Help organizing the TOYP (Global Goal Awards) in Belgium in 2016 and 2017
  • Promotion of the Global Goals in Belgium, development of a training / keynote for the benefit of local chapters
  • Launch of the “Let’s do it!” campaign in Belgium, culminating in the organization of the World Cleanup Day on 15 August, 2018 (new date!)

Will you be a member of the SDG Ambassadors Team?

To achieve our goals, we are looking for some enthusiastic team members who wish to collaborate on one or more of the points mentioned above.

Do you have organizational skills, you want to develop a training session, you are a crack of communication, budget management or relationship maintenance, and at the same time fascinated by the idea that, by collaborating globally around Global Goals, we can make life better at the global level? Then be welcome in our team!

What do we expect from you?

We expect a minimum commitment from our team members to attend meetings and undertake tasks. Count 2 meetings per month (Brussels region) and 1-2 hours per week.
You can commit to a particular task, or for a fixed period (eg 2017).

The language with which the team will work will be English.

Submit your application …

Send an e-mail to valerie.degroote@jci.be and briefly explain which aspect of our goals you want to participate in and what talents you want to use / develop. We will invite you soon to our first meeting!

2017: focus on the Global Goals

Dear friends,

This year, I have the honor to endorse the role of SDG ambassador within the Board of JCI Belgium. A sequel to my role as Partnerships Manager last year, but also a new function. Its creation reflects the importance that our organization gives to the SDG’s or Sustainable Development Goals.

Anyone who was present at the Active Citizenday has already received a first introduction to the world of the SDG’s. (As a reminder: these goals have been adopted by the United Nations in 2015, after a worldwide survey about the most important needs in the world. JCI also worked on the practical organization of the survey. The objective is to achieve these goals by 2030.)

My role this year at JCI Belgium, which coincides with the role of the member of the United Nations and External Affairs Committee that was awarded to me internationally, is to promote SDGs and ensure our contacts with organizations in Belgium that contribute to the achievement of these objectives.

I will fulfill this role as follows:

  • The sharing of knowledge about SDG’s and cooperation between JCI and the United Nations:
    • By writing a blog on these pages that will deal each time deeper with an aspect of the subject
    • By developing a lecture that local chapters can book to broaden knowledge on the subject with members and supporters
  • Promotion of SDG-related activities:
    • The 2017 JCI Global Partnership Summit: the annual summit between JCI and the United Nations, this year from August 1st to 4th in New York, USA
    • Local chapter and partner organization activities related to SDG’s
  • In addition, we plan to create a team of SDG ambassadors to face greater challenges:
    • Ensure the continuity, through which the team will be able to take the role of ambassador in the years to come, under the wing of the Board of JCI Belgium
    • Reporting and launching of the international campaign “Let’s do it” (on which there will be more information in a future post).

And for those interested in the fulfilling of my role as United Nations and External Affairs Committee member, attention is focused on:

  • Knowledge and promotion of the Global Goals within JCI in Europe
  • Contribute to the content of the Global Partnership Summit and the organization of a European delegation

I wish you all a sustainable 2017!
